The Opportunity This is a pivotal executive role designed for a strategic legal leader who will serve as a trusted advisor to our executive team. You will own the legal strategy for our entire investment lifecycle—from fund formation and corporate governance to complex real estate transactions and regulatory compliance. You won't just be managing legal matters; you'll be building the legal infrastructure that enables our continued expansion and success, working in close partnership with your counterpart in Property Management & Operations to create a world-class, synergistic legal function. What You’ll Do Architect Legal Strategy & Governance Serve as a key legal advisor to the executive team, providing strategic counsel on investment risk, deal structuring, and corporate governance. Build and lead a scalable internal legal framework that aligns perfectly with our enterprise investment objectives and risk tolerance. Act as Corporate Secretary for our investment entities, ensuring impeccable governance processes, documentation, and adherence to the highest fiduciary standards. Master Corporate & Fund Oversight Oversee the structuring, formation, and ongoing legal administration of our diverse investment vehicles, including funds, joint ventures, and club deals. Ensure ironclad compliance with all securities laws, private placement rules, fiduciary duties, and investor documentation requirements. Serve as the company's primary authority on governing investment documents, providing clear guidance to prevent legal exposure and conflicts of interest. Drive High-Value Real Estate Transactions Lead all legal oversight for acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and development projects across our national portfolio. Coordinate with and manage external counsel to draft, review, and negotiate critical agreements, from purchase and sale agreements to complex financing documents. Partner seamlessly with our Transactions and Asset Management teams to support due diligence, evaluate risk, and execute deals with precision. Champion Compliance & Mitigate Investment Risk Build and maintain robust compliance programs governing our investment activities, including adherence to SEC regulations, investment management rules, and other regulatory requirements. Partner with our Risk Management team to proactively identify, monitor, and mitigate legal risks embedded in our investment operations. Manage outside counsel involved in regulatory matters, disputes, and strategic transactions, ensuring effective and efficient representation. What You Bring J.D. from an accredited law school and an active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. 7 years of legal experience, ideally within a private equity real estate or investment management environment. You possess deep expertise in real estate transactions, fund formation, and corporate governance, with a strong working knowledge of SEC regulations and investor reporting. Proven ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, actionable business decisions. You have experience managing both internal teams and outside counsel, with high integrity, sound judgment, and a collaborative, low-ego leadership style. You are a self-motivated leader who excels with minimal supervision. You have exceptional interpersonal and communication skills and a proven ability to collaborate with a diverse group of employees to achieve shared goals in a fast-paced environment.
